Eastern Winter Sport Cluster 2023
As we reflect on our Eastern Winter Sport Cluster which finished two weeks ago, our team are very happy with this year's achievements.
We enabled over 750 tamariki to play their chosen winter sport or activity during the bleakest part of the year, mostly in sunshine whilst it might have been a soggy underfoot.
The Winter Sport Cluster from its inception back in 2015 was designed to reduce the barriers to participation, reduce travel and costs to give the tamariki an experience of interschool competition Year 5-8 like nothing else in the Canterbury area.
The Cluster offers lots of choice with Capture the Flag, Hockey, Football, Netball, Ki o Rahi, Touch Rugby, Table Tennis, Circus and Gardening.
We pride ourselves on the Winter Sport Cluster and enjoy the interaction with the tamariki and their whanau on Fridays during winter. We can see from their smiling faces and sheer joy of being outdoors out of the classroom that it's a great weekly event in their timetable.
We give big thanks to our partners at New Brighton Community Gardens for the gardening programme, Youth Alive Trust for the table tennis and Christchurch Circus Trust for the circus programme. We also thank Rawhiti School for the use of their courts each week.
